Website Updates

Hosting Issues

This website is hosted on a shared server with an unknown number of other websites. If any of the websites are getting hacked, scraped, etc., then the whole server can go down. And the database server that provides most of the data can also have its own downtime and upgrades, but usually not as frequent as web server.

Beginning in late March 2025 (#1 in the image below), a series of events led to an abnormal amount of downtime (ranging up to several hours on multiple occasions), delayed updates, loss of functionaltiy, and loss of revenue throughout the month of April.

In early May 2025 (#2 in the image above), the incidents suddenly stopped. A week later I received a lengthy email from my web host acknowledging some of the issues and describing changes that have been made. As of early June 2025, there has been only one outage over five minutes (knock on wood). There are several links/filters that still need to be fixed due to one of the upgrades, but every page will need to be tested and that will take some more time.

So for now, I've avoided a web host move. And it's a good thing since the number of ColdFusion/MySQL database web hosts seems to dwindle each time I search. Not to mention that the costs, especially if I moved to a more stable dedicated/private server, could increase by 400-1500% or even more.

For future reference, you can see if there has been a recurrence of outages on this Site Status page.

Web Design Changes

The switch of pages to the new web technology and format that was introduced a few years ago is still in progress. My goal is to have the most popular pages converted first and the rest as priorities and time permit. Until then you will see a mix of the old and new formats (my apologies in advance).

Please contact me if you run into any issues. Include the device and browser that you are using, and the page where the issue occurred.

If you feel you are reaching this page in error, please check the following section for changes to the path/file name in the link you clicked. You can try to find the new page manually by starting on the new Football, Men's Basketball or Women's Basketball home pages.

Updated Section Paths and Page File Names

Part of this upgrade is a reorganization of some of the section and page file names. This will affect any existing links on Wikipedia, news/blog articles, message boards, etc.

The older men's and women's basketball pages now redirect to this page or an interim page with a link to the new page. Those older pages will be removed on July 1, 2025.

Here are some examples of what has changed or will change:

  • mbasketball >> basketball/men
  • wbasketball >> basketball/women
  • app_final.cfm >> appearances-final.cfm
  • app_final_team.cfm >> appearances-final-team.cfm
  • app_last.cfm >> appearances-last.cfm
  • app_preseason.cfm >> appearances-preseason.cfm
  • app_preseason_team.cfm >> appearances-preseason-team.cfm
  • app_streaks_seasons.cfm >> appearance-streaks-season.cfm
  • app_total.cfm >> appearances-total.cfm
  • app_streaks_weeks.cfm >> appearance-streaks-weeks.cfm
  • num1_weekly.cfm >> number-1-weekly-progression.cfm

Browser Compatibility

The new web technology (Bootstrap) makes it easier to use on mobile devices. However, it does not support any browser prior to the following versions:

  • Chrome 60
  • Android 6
  • Safari 10
  • iOS Safari 10
  • Microsoft Edge Legacy (including all Internet Explorer versions)
  • Firefox 60

Full browser compatibility tables are available here.
